So first of all, im going to tell you about the trip I had last month. Because of our subject in our school IT’S CALLED CPAR!!! so because of my prof he decided that we should go to the National Museums of the Philippines for our subject about paintings and museums. One museum caught my attention and my heart and it is the ” National Museum Of Fine Arts(Manila).
There are 3 paintings caught my attention. Those 3 paintings contains our history here in the Philippines, those paintings screams our hardships, our people suffering from the hands of the colonizers here in the Philippines.
Here are the paintings and my insights about it.
“Rape And Massacre In Ermita(1947) by Diosdado M. Lorenzo”
In this painting it shows how there is no gender equality but most of it there’s no such think as “women’s right” in this time period. As you can see during the war between Japan and the Philippines, many women tend to get raped and then killed by the Japanese soldier afterwards. You can fully understand that in this painting. A woman being raped in front of her child, her husband “if it is” being tortured or being beat up by the soldiers and the girl lying down on the floor lifeless. This painting contributes so much in our industry. For it is a nightmare for us Filipinos we lost so many lives or love ones during this period where there’s no equal rights or human right, whatever your age was you’ll be killed. This painting contributes our self awareness about our history during the WWII.
The 2nd painting was a good contribution to our country.
“Planting The First Cross(1965) by Vicente Manansala”
The painting depicts the planting of the cross in Cebu in 1521 with Ferdinand Magellan, spanish soldiers and natives with intricate tattoos known as Pintados. The original cross can still be found in a special kiosk in Cebu city. This mural painting is one of the best representations of historical artwork in the collection. This painting showed us how the Spaniards spread Christianity here in the Philippines. It contributes that we we’re influenced by the Spanish colony.
And the last one is the most known one
“Spoliaruim (1884) by Juan Luna”
The Spoliarium shows that during the Spanish periods we suffer from the hands of the Spaniards. We were controlled by them from political to the social lives of those people who lived by that time period. According to Dr. Jose Rizal, “Juan Luna centered on the severe ordeal of the Filipino nation, in which its encompassing human nature, had never been regained”. We have no idea by that time that we were blinded by the Spaniard to conquer our country. We didn’t know how to fight them, but some of them did. By expressing it through art, and this is one of them. This painting contributes how we used subliminal messages, to inform us. An eye opener for those who lived by that time, and an inspiration and historical memory for us who are in the current time period.
• Do you also know that this painting was submitted by Luna to the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884 in Madrid, where it garnered the first gold medal. In 1886, it was sold to the Diputación Provincial de Barcelona for 20,000 pesetas.
So there you have it! Thank you so much for reading it!
HAVE A NICE DAY!!!
